What is Formula SimRacing?
If you have no idea yet what Formula SimRacing is, we’d recommend
you to visit this or this
link.
If you have further questions, let us know in the appropriate FSR Forum
or send an email to admin@formula-simracing.net.
For Press and Marketing requests, please contact president@formula-simracing.net.
What are the long term goals of Formula SimRacing?
Basically, we strive to become more and more professional all the time.
We are highly likely to have Live Broadcasts of our events in 2007 which
is a major step into this direction. We plan to have more companies
as sponsors involved in our project in order to grow even further and
to be able to give away more and more prize money. We’re also
planning bigger events and meetings for the future. And what else? Well,
time will show. We've got a few rather big plans in our minds and we'll
see what will be possible in the future.
Our standards and targets are very high, the Administration of Formula
SimRacing and the International SimRacing Club are doing their work
honorarily and with great passion and enthusiasm.
2. Getting started
I heard that in order to participate in Formula SimRacing as
a driver, I have to pay money. Is that right?
No. That’s a rumour which we know about since longer time that
it is spreaded in the simracing scene.
The World Series league is completely free of charges for teams and
drivers.
For participating in the World Championship category, teams will have
to purchase a license from the International SimRacing Club. But that
does not mean that the team’s drivers have to have their share
in those licences. On the contrary: In the most current top teams, drivers
get paid for their duties by the teams’ sponsors.
I would like to race in the World Series category. Whom do
I approach for that?
It depends whether you as the driver would like to join an already existant
team or whether you would like to start with your own team.
Joining an existing team makes sense if you’re a rookie or if
you don’t have a teammate to race with yet, because this way the
team can support you in all important areas and it will surely answer
all your questions. In order to get attraction from World Series teams,
just make a new post in the ?Team and Driver Vacancies? Forum.
To enter your own team, you need to register it on FSR’s website.
For further questions, please consult the World Series Director or post
your question in the World Series Forum.
My team wants to enter the professional World Championship
category. Whom do we approach for that?
Please send an email to admin@formula-simracing.net and tell Formula
SimRacing about your intention to compete in the World Championship
category. The Administration will try to get back to you as soon as
possible in order to enter your team in the World Championship.
3. FSR
Why does FSR not allow me to use my nickname in the game and
in the tables?
Simply because we’re a serious league and we would like to appear
as such. In our eyes, using Nicknames is improfessional and it is not
our habit to support that.
Everyone in FSR is using his real name.
Is my team allowed to have its own skins and textures?
You’re not only allowed, you’re very much encouraged!
All World Championship teams have their own skins, and most of the World
Series teams as well. For questions concerning how to get your textures
into the official FSR Modification, please consult one of the two category
directors.
At which time are the races starting?
World Series Pro starts at 21:00GMT on Fridays, World Series Ace at
13:00GMT on Saturdays, and the World Championship at 17:30GMT on the
same day. Qualifyings are directly before the races. For more information,
please download the rules in our downloads section.
Does Formula SimRacing currently offer prize money in the World
Championship category?
We did offer quite a few prize money in 2005, but for this year we went
through kind of a restructuration phase with a lot of important personalities
changing roles within the FSR Administration. We’ve changed quite
many things in FSR’s organization which had the top priority at
that time because that was so important if we wanted to keep and extend
our high standards. That made it difficult timewise to get in talks
with partners for this year. So, no, we do not offer prize money in
2006.
However, we are highly likely to have sponsors for 2007, so that we
can again offer prize money for next year.
It is not only FSR that tries to offer more and more prize money though,
the teams themselves were able to attract quite a few sponsors since
some time. You’d have to consult the respective parties for further
information.
What Controller is the best?
Of course, steering wheels have to be used in our leagues to be any
competitive, but which one? That’s a good question, and people
have different opinions on that. A rather cheap but solid wheel is the
Microsoft SideWinder, whereas wheels like the Logitech Momo’s
or Driving Force Pro are more precise but also more expensive. Most
drivers do use Logitech wheels though. For more information you should
contact a driver, or a team, or simply ask in our Forums and people
will surely assist in finding the best controller for you!
I installed all the FSR patches. But how can I be sure that
I did everything right?
Our gameserver, named ?Formula-SimRacing.net’ is online 24/7.
You can join and see if you have any mismatches. If you don’t
have any then that’s very good, but if you want to be 100% sure,
you can send a test-logfile to the WC / WS Directors. For more information
how to do that, please contact them directly.
How does Formula SimRacing prevent cheating and how are cuttings
being checked?
We’ve developed our own anti-cheat tool we are really satisfied
with and which is steadily developed further. We haven’t had any
issues with cheating for a very long time. Also, and despite all the
hard competition, there is a really good atmosphere among our drivers,
which we’re really happy about. Drivers have to launch the game
through that tool, and after the session they have to submit a logfile
which is created by that tool. They also have to submit their fastest
laps which are then being checked for possible cuts, especially qualifying
laps.
4. World Championship
How much does a World Championship licence cost and for how
long time is it valid?
The Club sells the licences for 1000,- ? (one thousand) Euros. If the
Club has given all licences away, interested parties can try to purchase
an existing team. Details and pricing are to be freely discussed between
those two parties.
The licences are valid as long as Formula SimRacing exists.
Why does the World Championship category not allow any driving
aids although today’s Formula One has all the likes of devices
to make the driver’s life easier?
Although we are not allowed to mention Formula One on the website due
to legal reasons, quite clearly is FSR orientating to it. But that doesn’t
mean we have to simulate all the downsides of the modern standards,
such as Traction Controls and handling aids. The World Championship
category is a place for the best simracers of this world. Formula One
may need its aids ? we don’t. We are in fact proud that, in order
to be competitive, a lot of talent, experience and practice has to be
put in, unlike in Formula One, where Formula 3 rookies can easily set
the fastest times in their very first free practice ever. That’s
hardly possible in Formula SimRacing.
How much practice do I need to be competitive in the World
Championship category?
Of course, we can’t answer that question so easily. It depends
very much on the talent and the experience of a driver. Most top drivers
in the World Championship category need to spend maybe 20% of their
practice to be reasonably fast and 80% to find the last five tenths
or so through more setup work.
Other drivers might need to do more percentage of practice to find their
limits.
The top drivers usually do around almost 1000 practice laps for a race
which would be something like 22 hours. Others are happy with 30% of
that and are still very fast. It’s really hard to say, because
it’s just an individual thing.
So, can basically every driver compete in the World Championship?
Well, basically yes. The league hands out a ?superlicense’ to
every driver which allows him to compete in the WC, since we need to
be sure that the driver is capable of controlling his car and of not
being too slow. Drivers can get a superlicense by doing World Series
races and showing good behaviour, or they apply for it by showing results
of an other online-league they had participated in. But yes, in principle
everyone can compete, as long as he has got a good enough computer and
a steering wheel as a controller, of course. There are also no age restrictions
or something like that. It’s all up to the driver’s behaviour
on track.
5. The International SimRacing Club
How can I become a member of the International Simracing Club
and what are my advantages to be in there?
Currently, only World Championship Team Owners and Club/League Administrators
can become members.
We offer an email group with all members where any matters can be discussed.
New ideas can be brought in, people can express their opinion, and of
course the Club Members can take part in the annual vote on the ISR
Club President.
Team Owners are also organised in yet another email group, the Team
Owners Association, where they have a certain say on sporting rules
of the World Championship category.
What does the International SimRacing Club do with license
incomes?
We’re happy to have the best technology supporting us in terms
of both webserver and gameserver. This is very important for us because
that’s what makes the league a special place. Obviously, we don’t
get that service for nothing, so the most expenses we have go in that
direction. If we have a reasonable surplus, it will be given away as
prize money.
Do you have more questions that you find should be put into
the FAQ?
Please send an email with your question to admin@formula-simracing.net
and we'll do our best to answer it and make it visible in this page
as soon as possible.
Thank you!
