Precision Motorsports secures P2 in the Constructors - Brazil Review
Precision Motorsports continued victory form in WC and scored podium and victory in Ace and Pro
Category: Article
It turned out to be a successful final race "Media image" weekend for Precision Motorsports at Interlagos, as the team continued victory form in WC and scored podium and victory in Ace and Pro.
The team's sole representant in Ama, Ajibola Lawal, had to face a grid penalty which complicated his race, but the team's youngest asset made a strong recovery to climb up to finish fifth after the 35 laps. The weekend continued strong in the Pro division, where Allar Foht was on the move from the very beginning. After a tight qualify the Estonian had a thrilling fight against Cyril Werdmuller, but managed to come out as the stronger one and win his first race in FSR for Precision Motorsports.
Ajibola Lawal commented: "Had a good Q1 but field was tight, so I started from the pits. In the race I made good manoeuveres and made my way up to 5th. Shame about the penalty as I felt victory was possible but of course a great way to end the season so now I'm looking forward to a winter break and next year in FSR."
Allar Foht commented: "Q - I messed up my lap in Q1 but still it was enough for top 10, Q2 was very good and just managed to get pole by some hundredths. Race - Overall it was very hard to drive, setup was surpringly oversteery unlike in practise. Did a lot of mistakes and times weren't consistent at all. Also I messed up my pit stops and lost a lot of time because of that. After final pitstop I had a nice battle with Cyril, managed to pass him and hold a steady gap between us. First win for me in my first season in FSR, so I am very happy and looking forward for the next year."
A strong performance in Ace saw Rasmus Tali qualify fifth but climb up into second and challenge for the win early in the race, which however, wasnt't enough to beat Karol but gave another strong podium.
Rasmus Tali commented: "This time I was able to do a nice lap with fair amount of fuel onboard, but 2 roaldo cars seemed and were light on fuel so they and poniatowski were in front of me, start was pretty good, after first lap fights I was second and 2,4 behined poniatowski, after first stop I came on track just after a 2 stoping car and I lost 3-4 seconds fighting with him, and gap with the leader stretched to 8 seconds. After that I was able to do very constant and fast laps, but again it wasnt enough and at the finish line Karol won by 0,9 of a second. I can't say I am satisfied but I know I did all I could to win but it wasnt enough today."
In WC the team had its biggest success once again. After a somewhat average qualifying, the team had prepped a strong 2-stop strategy which was the key for Jaakko Mikkonen to win the race. The Finn made a brilliant performance in the crucial sections of the race and finished first over the chequered flag. Bruno Marques had a more difficult race, influenced by traffic and incidents, but nevertheless the ex-champion finished in fifth to consolidate the team's second place in constructors.
Jaakko Mikkonen commented: "I cant complain much really. Q3 was great. Start of the race was great which means I survived it. On few occasions I was held up by three stoppers when i was on two stops - which was a bit weird. Last stint was truly horrible. I had already overrevved the engine badly and I had no idea if brakes were going to last either. I saw Dennis closing and Bono closing behind him. Luckily Bono distracted Dennis enough so I got a bit of room to drive."
Bruno Marques commented: "Disappointing race as I had a better pace than this. A few things went wrong all race from the start where I got passed by John-Eric Saxén, took the change to save the engine for a later charge, closed on him before my 1st pitstop, managed to pass him even though I pitted later. Then I started driving as fast as I could to get Dennis Hirrle in hopes of helping Jaakko but it simply went wrong a lap later when a TMo driver, Florian Bekker if i'm not mistaken, spun in front of me and blocked my path. I got damage in my front wing, Saxén repassed me and then I made a couple of mistakes, had to let Timon pass too, then my car was rear-snapping sometimes out of the blue... pretty much a nightmare 2nd stint. 3rd stint was a bit better, managed to do the fastest lap of the race, but then I had a very unfortunate incident with Timon. I'm very sorry for that . After that I went after Roy Kolbe and tried to pass him making sure I wouldn't blow the engine ... unfortunately I was 0.027 seconds too slow. All in all was a rather positive return as I helped Precision Motorsports to get 2nd place in the Constructors World Championship , but I have the feel I could have done more... See you in 2010!"
Ondrej Kuncman commented: "Very strong final weekend of the season is certainly encouraging concerning the upcoming 2010 season. I am especially delighted with win of Allar, who has worked really hard for the win and obviously Jaakko with Rasmus, both of whom did stunning job in their races. Jaakko proved yet again that nobody can write him off and he will most certainly be a top runner in 2010 too. Unfortunately he hasn't achieved the second place in the drivers championship but thanks to him and Bruno we secured second place in the constructors championship."
