2006-04-16Malaysia Sepang, Malaysia 2006 Coca-Cola Kiw...ACE2006P4P3Comment: My second race in my new team, Coca Cola Kiwi Virtual Ace, started well and looked pretty god knowing that our tactics were really strong.

Good start, from 4th to 3rd into 1st corner. That was OK, because that was just where I wanted to be: Chris Phillips was way too fast, Emanuel looked fast in qual … Chris was 2nd, Emanuel 1st. I was able to keep up with them until Chris passed Emanuel … That’s about it for the start.

I was watching Emre again - just like in Melbourne - as I knew I had to beat him for the podium. All was looking good, he was behind and I guessed he was on 3 stops, I was on 2. Looked great. 1st stops, all ok, I just came back ahead of Emre but he took me at the mid-track hairpin. We had a short but very fair fight. I took the outside and then tried to come back ... no success.

All went ok, just about 10 secs for Emre so I said: we're gonna catch this-one. Then came my 2nd stop. When I came out I saw that my fuel-level was not enough to finish ... somehow the crew put in less fuel than expected. But kept going and hoping for something to happen on track. I was pushing hard and was looking at the gap to 3rd place - it went up to 22 seconds. I knew it was not enough.

I’ve settled my mind with 3rd and I went to pit with 2 laps to go. Finished 4 seconds behind 2nd place. That’s about it. As I see it, a Kiwi 1-2 was gone just because a fuel-rig error. We will be back at Imola.

The whole Kiwi team did a very good job, congratulations to Chris's second dominating win. Even with this minor technical problem, Coca-Cola, our main sponsor had a car on the podium for the second consecutive race.18View Official Result Download PDF File of Official Result

2006-06-18Great Britain Silverstone, Great Britain 2006 F1 Racing Kiw...WC2006P10P8Comment: Silverstone was the first race where my F1 Racing Team gave me the opportunity to compete in the World Championship event. I want to thank our sponsor, F1 Racing, for the support and trust. My goal was set and it was pretty clear: finish and bring points, and also stay clear of trouble.

This was the track where my pace was the best so far this season. I’ve managed to get a top 10 qualifying lap, even though my test were concentrated around race setups and not fast-laps. The 1.15.7 was just a bit slower than my fastest lap so far on this track.

I’ve made a good start, I was 8th in T1 but I was unlucky because Dominik (7th) just spun off right in front of me. I had to brake very hard exiting T1, just to avoid him. Obviously I’ve lost a place right away, but I’ve managed to avoid Dom just when I was convinced I’m going to hit him very hard.

I was trying to avoid collisions so I was braking earlier than usual, just not to hit anybody. Because of that (I was maybe too cautious) I’ve lost 2 places entering the slow section of the track – in the Priory curve. I was back to 10th place.

From that moment on, I was just keeping out of trouble. There were a couple of cars just a bit slower than me, right ahead, but I couldn’t overtake them. After my 1st pit-stop I’ve realized that many people are on 2 stops, unlike me (3). I was driving 13th J many laps but after the 3rd stop I got out in 10th, right behind Marconi.

Then it was Hirrle in trouble (engine) and I was approaching Marconi (about 2 sec) but he also ran in trouble (he hit the kerbs in Stowe and spun out), so I was right there to collect 1 point in 8th.

It was a good race for me, I’ve brought home the last point for the team, as a decent result in my only WC race so far this season. A big thanks again to our sponsor, F1 Racing, and also to every team-member of the Kiwi-Virtual.

2006-08-20Germany Hockenheim, Germany 2006 F1 Racing Kiw...WC2006P12P9Comment: I whish to thank the Kiwi team and our sponsor, F1 Racing, for this second opportunity to race in this league. The world class drivers around are always motivating me, I had a very good race with very few mistakes, only a couple maybe.

I've qualified 12th (didn’t expect more), then good start, some overtakes I think. No mistakes (almost) the whole race. At some point I was 6th or 5th, I really don’t know. I was mostly in front and behind of Neumann, with Denis Kirakopoulos around on 3 stops. I saw he will be the man to beat.

I really don’t know where I lost many seconds after my 2nd pit-stop, but I had some 9 seconds before stopping and when Denis also stopped, he came out about 6-8 seconds ahead. I was really surprised loosing about 15 seconds in just a couple of laps.

Then I picked up the pace and was catching him. We were running 9th and 10th. Then somebody retired (Zaahir I think) and there was 1 point to catch. I’ve pushed hard and caught Denis with 2 laps to go, but I was over-optimistic going into the hairpin and touched him. Nobody got spun off or damaget, so we kept the fight on. I caught him again on the very last lap, this time I was in his tail, with better top-speed. But approaching the hairpin he was all over the place and I didn’t wanted to be very aggressive, so I took it easy. That was the end, no other chance to overtake (I’ve even spun off later but that really didn't matter anyway).

It was a very hard race, I’ve finished 9th with 8th place within a reach.

2006-09-03Hungary Hungaroring, Hungary 2006 F1 Racing Kiw...WC2006P15P8Comment: First of all a very big thank you for our sponsor, F1 Racing and our team management for this new opportunity. I'm a bad qualifier, I had a terrible qualifying (16th I think), but my start was good and I was in top 10 in no time.
After that, some fights with Giuseppe, Fabrizio, throughout the stints. I think it was fair.
Lets’ talk about the finish: I was 8th and I was catching up Zaahir and David really fast. I had 2 laps to go and catched them. I didn’t want to overtake. But I said: let’s see what their fight brings. I wanted to get a bit closer and spun in the last corner.
I’m sorry I’ve left that last point go. But sometimes that’s the way it turns out. In Germany it was within a reach, here it was in my pocket. I’m stunned after an almost flawless drive (at my level, obviously) from me, I’ve made only one error and it costed me that crucial last point.
Thanks to my fellow racers for the good race and to our sponsor, F1 Racing and our team, F1 Racing Kiwi Virtual, for the opportunity.

2006-09-17Turkey Istanbul, Turkey 2006 F1 Racing Kiw...WC2006P14P6Comment: I'm getting used to race in WC, it's really nice. Thanks to my team Kiwi Virtual and our sponsor, F1 Racing. My qualifying was pretty bad – but I’m used to it. It really does not make any difference for me especially in WC races. Started 14’th. I had a good start, took it very easy in T1. In T5 I was 9th. Nice. Then I was overtaken by Danny, but kept it going.

The 3 stopper proved to be the right strategy, the car behaved just admirably, as it felt the same throughout the stint. Manged to avoid trouble and kept my pace constant, and that was the key to finish 6th. I think I made no mistake at all. This is my best ever WC race finish.
