Catching up with Bruno Marques
Sponsored by ACT LABS
A week before the Turkey GP, we sat outside
in the sun with current championship leader Bruno Marques. After some drinks we started the conversation with a confronting question: "will you be champion this season?". Bruno laughed and said: "I'm trying". This was the beginning of a pleasant talk about racing, music and idols.
Bruno Marques, 21 years old, Portuguese. His idol is perhaps easy to guess for someone who likes racing, it is Ayrton Senna. "The charisma and his sort of aura inside and outside the car, diffecult to explain I must say, but I also loved to watch his races" said Bruno. Becoming a big fan of Formula 1 started in 1992, since the Monaco GP, Bruno was fortunate to watch Senna racing.
“After his death, here in Portugal they showed a documentary with this exact lap included , it was in the year 1991 in Monaco and it was pretty much awesome.” But what about Michael Schumacher? He was more a driver of your time I guess? Bruno used to ‘hate’ him some time pre-2000, but he added “slowly I gained respect for him every year and well, he was for sure a great driver”. Will there be someone like Ayrton in the future I asked? Bruno had to think and said “Bruno Senna might be on his way to Formula 1, but that's all. There won't be another "Ayrton Senna" I think”.
After some good old memories, I was interested how he prepares for a race and how he can be so consistent during a race. Is there a secret? Bruno told us that he sometimes listens to music before a race, to calm him down and not to think too much about the race. His favourite song? Linkin Park – What I’ve done.
Bruno is absolutely a Linkin Park fan, but he also likes other bands like Evanescence, Muse and some oldies like Queen and Scorpions. When I asked him if he knew Incubus, he smiled “just the name, never tried to like it”. So I couldn’t ask him about Incubus – Love Hurts, which I was listening on my way to meet Bruno.
So Bruno, next race you will most likely start from the back (as will Roy Kolbe) because of a penalty you got in Hungary. You still expect to win? Or will David Greco grab it? Bruno said “Win from last ? I would need a big luck for sure, but I am confident on a strong points finish anyway. Don't know about if David will win or not , he has been pretty much inconsistent lately.”. Of course I had to ask the question, what the Bruno Marques will do next season? “Well, life can be surprising sometimes but I expect to keep driving in FSR next year and yes indeed I got many teams interested. Let's see how it will be.” Bruno said.
We finished our drinks and I had one last question, who is your favourite simracer and real racer? Bruno had to laugh again and said: “My favorite Sim-Racing driver... has to be myself I think, I like to watch myself driving and in real racing it is Kimi Raikkonen”.
