Bathurst 1000km race
Report of the Bathurst 1000km race on the 24th of February 2008
Team: Precision Motorsports Category: Press-release
The legendary Mount panorama was calling "Media image" and 28 teams came to the show their strength on the 6,213km long circuit. The historical 1000 km of Bathurst race promised to become a thrilling and exciting event. Also the C&P Precision Racing Team took the challenge of to compete in this race. But for the three drivers Julian Hügl, Jesper Öhrman and Johannes Kunkel it was not only the matter of driving a strong race. The team, which was to be recognised by a unusual paintwork which was made from hundreds of child portraits, drove this race with a special mission. The main sponsor of the team had accepted to donate one Euro to the Strahlemann orphanage in Tamil Nadu, for every Lap the Team completes in this race.
After some initial problems at 13:30 o'clock a 35 minutes qualifying was. As the C&P Precision Racing team had concentrated more on the race setup they could only score the 17th place on the Grid. After some movements in the starting Grid start driver Johannes Kunkel took position 14 to start into the 161 lap race. After a slow formation Lap, the last opportunity to go through the details of the track, the cars lined up in the Starting Grid: A loud horn announces the beginning of the start procedure. One red light lights up on the start traffic light. Two, the drivers make their last preparations for the start. Three, the noise of the engines grows up. Four, full throttle. GREEN. And with the Sound of a Thunder 18000 HP pull away from the Grid. With a strong start the C&P Precision Racing team could gain 4 positions already before first Corner. At the end of Lap 1 Johannes Kunkel managed to move up to 8th position. In the next two Laps he even puts pressure on Damian Razowski on 7th position, but he could not follow his speed after the 4th Lap. In the next Laps Johannes Kunkel concentrated on defending the 8th place against the drivers of MultiBC and Gameswelt.de. "Fortunately, our car had enough Top Speed on the Main Straight, so they could not take advantage of the slipstream behind me. And as this is the only real opportunity to overtake on this tight track, I could keep them behind me without getting in trouble." Johannes Kunkel explained the situation after the race.
Therefore the C&P Precision Racing team was positioned on an astonishing 8th place. Until in Lap eight on the breaking to Turn1 the computer of start driver Johannes Kunkel went down, which ended the race for the C&P Precision Racing team abruptly.
After this early end of the race and therewith only a small amount of donations for "Racing for kids", Precision Motorsports would like to ask you, the Community, to perform a contribution to accumulate an adequate amount of donations, as they hope not to end this in such a bad way. That's why the team has provided a download package. This contains the Paintwork of the C&P Precision Racing team for the 1000 km of Bathurst, some Renders and Screenshots of this car. This package will be free for download on homepage of the team. Everyone who downloads this package is invited to donate a small value to the orphanage in Tamil Nadu.
Next to the download will find a link to the Homepage of the Strahlemann Foundation. There are many ways to support them, but in addition, we would like once more tp point out to the book "Die Kinder des Tsunami" (from which the pictures for the Paintwork were taken). The whole net proceeds from this book are of benefit for the child home in Tamil Nadu. It is available in every book store for 29.80 € (ISBN 978-3-86770-770-1).
