Bahrain: 3 for 3 with a double podium finish!
Marques makes it 3 in a row for the team and Stephane gets his first podium finish!
League: World Championship Team: GhostSpeed Racing Team Category: Article
The wins keep coming, this time at Bahrain. "GS Logo 2008 FSR" Bruno Marques keeps the winning streak alive for the team in this great start of the season, the best of his career. And Stephane Rouault finishes in 3rd, achieving his first podium finish on his FSR World Championship career.
Despite these great results at the World Championship, the weekend didn't start very well for GhostSpeed Racing Team. At the World Series ACE, Rickard Hellsten and João Barbosa lined up for the main team again, where luck was nowhere to be found, again. This time, the drivers of the sister team, GS Racing, manage to get in the top24 and qualify for the race, but that was a short burst of happiness for Mauricio Gomez who wasn't able to start the race due to technical problems in his GSR2008DK.
On the race, Rickard Hellsten made another good start and was leading the race once more after starting in P4 this time, followed closely by the Roaldo drivers, when his car had again technical problems forcing him to retire with 22 laps to go. Rickard Hellsten had immediately traveled to Tibet to pray to the Gods for his bad luck to go away. He hopes to be blessed by the Buddhist monks for the remaining of the season.
João Barbosa in the other hand, started from outside the top10 but manage to pass to P8 in the first lap after a great start. He would finish the race in P10, after a consistent performance. João was the only driver at the WS ACE to finish race, after Gabriel Montanes, the second GS Racing driver, retiring too but with brakes failure.
After the bad luck at the WS ACE, it was time for the World Championship guys to try to run away from it. And that they did. Already in Qualifying, both drivers managed to get good positions in the starting grid. Bruno Marques missed the pole by less than 0.1 secs and started from 2nd. Stephane Rouault got a good 6th starting position.
At the WC race, Bruno managed to get P1 even before T1 after starting better than Roy Kolbe. After that he just kept pushing and pushing with Roy always close behind keeping the pressure on him. But Bruno showed again why he is double world champion by not making any mistake. And it was Roy who made the mistake, retiring on lap 43. After that, Bruno just took the car home for the 3rd consecutive win!
After him, would come Stephane Rouault in 3rd, after a solid performance and an very tough race, controlling very well the distance to the 4th placed driver without a single mistake until the chequered flag, completing this way his first podium finish and the first double podium finish for the team!
Well done guys!
Now the team is already in Spain, focusing to try to extend this winning streak, knowing that it won’t be easy, but for sure we will "Bruno wins nr3" work to try to.
Bruno Marques, 1st, WC race comments: "What a race, I was pretty much pushing 100% this time from lap 1 until Roy crashed on lap43.
On Qualify 1 I did a reasonable lap, just wanted to make sure I was on Qualify 2. On Qualify 2, I did a very good lap personally, so congratulations to Roy who managed to do pole, we were close ... a good race was to come.
On Race I managed to do a very good start unlike what happened back on Sepang, and took 1st place before turn1 and it was vital to my chances to win, as I was going to stop earlier than Roy. I built a good gap before my pit stop which marginally was enough to hold the lead after Roy's pit stop. Again I managed to build a gap , this time bigger one as I had a flawless stint and Roy made a couple of mistakes. After 2nd pitstop, I was trying to mantain the difference between us until he crashed. Quite a shame...
Congrats to Stephane for his 1st podium finish :)"
Stephane Rouault, 3rd, WC Race comments: "Very very very exciting race. Lots of stuff went down, too much to tell really. I was just glad to get through Q1, as what happend in Sepang still was fresh in my mind. But I got through it fortunately. Then on Q2, my lap was just terrible, made too many mistakes. My start again was horrible, too much wheel spin and forgot the pit limiter again, allthough not as bad as in Melbourne. I went through on p12 on the first lap. I just decided to stay calm and go as fast as I could. I managed to overtake some people. Then after my pitstop, Ernesto was right behind me and he constantly was between 1-3 sec until the end of the race, which was hard. cause one mistake and I would lose the position for sure. Anyway I brought home my first podium, really happy with it. Well done to john as well, good podium. And Bruno.. dude.. what can I say really?!"
João Barbosa, 10th, WS Ace race comments: "Qualify not so good, but i was confident to the race. Started well, and jump to P8 at the first lap. Then i just try to be consistence as possible, because Denis was running good and not so far from me. In the first pit stop i was lucky because he pited at the same lap as me and we were at the same pit box, so bad luck for with :s In the final stint i was able to catch Schonbeck, and when i try to pass him we touch and i made a stint and lost to place to Denis also. Anyway happy to get one more finish, but the result could be better."
