Monaco: Ernesto climbs to the podium on Da Silva return!
Crown Seven Da Silva - Monaco Report
League: World Championship Team: Crown Seven Da Silva Category: Press-release
Ernesto De Angelis took a fantastic podium "Ernesto climbs to the podium on Da Silva return!" on his return to the Crown Seven Da Silva team in the streets of Monte Carlo. Despite a less than ideal car setup, the Italian scored the team's first six points of the season and his second podium finish of the year.
In Qualifying, after setting the 8th fastest time in Q1, Ernesto drove a fantastic lap in Parc Ferme conditions in Q2, achieving a front row start from 2nd position. Team mate Christian Smirnoff started from 19th.
Ernesto took the lead before the race even started, as poleman Patrick De Wit spun off during the formation lap. He would lead for 23 laps, until making his first pitstop. With a heavier fuel load, winner Yannick Lapchin managed to get in front of Ernesto, as did Ondrej Kuncman after the second round of stops. Although Ernesto was left wondering what could have been with a different strategy, he drove a great race to finish 3rd, even surviving an incident with David Greco towards the end.
Christian, however, had a miserable weekend. Struggling with oversteer and overheating rear tyres, he climbed to 12th but then slid to the barriers, damaging his DSC7-08. After being stopped for a few minutes while the crew repaired the car, Christian could rejoin the race to eventually finish in 11th place, outside the points.
Ernesto De Angelis (3rd): "Finishing in one piece in Monaco is already a success by itself. I'm obviously happy with this podium in my first race for Crown Seven Da Silva and I want to thank Crown Seven again for the big support they're giving to our team.
Now, when all is done, I might think a better strategy "Crown Seven" could have allowed me to win but races are not done with 'what if's'. I think I can be really satisfied with my race, which was clean with no damage and still pretty fast.
Congratulations to Yannick (Lapchin) for his great win and a big sorry to Patrick (De Wit) who really spoiled a big chance to win this one with that mistake."
Christian Smirnoff (11th): "A dissaster. Climbed to 12th by the end of the first lap, but couldn't run in a competitive pace as I was struggling with oversteer and didn't have confidence in the car.
In lap 26, I had some oversteer in Portier, corrected it but ran out of angle to turn into the tunnel entry, just touched the barrier but lost the front wing and damaged the suspension. I made the wrong call of trying to continue with the suspension damage as I couldn't keep the car straight so I soon went again into the barriers. After spending a few minutes in the pits while the car was repaired, I tried to stay on track and hope for a lucky point, but it didn't happen.
It's quite frustrating as I haven't had a clean, relatively troublefree race since Melbourne, but I'm really determined to turn things around in Montreal. Congratulations to Eny for a great podium with a difficult car!"
In less than two weeks time, the Crown Seven Da Silva team will be competing in Montreal, Canada, hoping to achieve another strong point-scoring result.
