The Scrutineer Gives A Low Down on FSR 2009
League: World Championship
The Scrutineer has been busying himself watching
"The Scrutineer" the FSR WC circus arrive at Melbourne for the season opener. He listens to the gravevine and he sorts the men from the boys. 2009 see's a massive upheaval from various rule changes, new cars and the notable absence of Bruno Marques, last seasons champion who went out on the ultimate high. The Scrutineer then says this of each teams chances for 2009...
GhostSpeed Racing Team
Reigning Champions GhostSpeed have put all their eggs in one basket for 2009 with one with - youth. Rickard Hellsten leads the team after a solid 2008 where he drove spectactually to his first WC podium in Fuji. He has a 100% point scoring finish streak to keep but he needs to work on his consistancy to get to the chequered flag to mount a real championship challenge. Laurent Keersmaekers burst onto the scene last year with an impressive string of results towards the end of the season however he will need to continue his impressive form into this season early to establish himself as a real title challenger. The two drivers are evenly matched and the driver who gets the early lead in the first few races will have a major psychological advantage.
Hot or Cold? Sizzling
Twister Racing have got a real chance to go for glory in 2009 with Stefan Kanitz and more notably Roy Kolbe at the helm. Roy Kolbe was leading the championship last season before commitments stood between him and victory however this season he needs to focus and bring home the bacon once again. He knows exactly how to win and is the one to watch for 2009. Stefan Kanitz will not want to be playing second fiddle however despite winning his first WC race last year, he has only completed half his racing laps and will need to gain some consistancy to ensure he doesn't get left behind. Twister Racing are hot tipped favourites for 2009.
Hot or Cold? Hell's Boilers
Roaldo Racing come into 2009 with a character building season ahead. Yannick Lapchin leads the team after a memorable maiden WC win at Monaco last year and after a dip in form, he was back at the front for Brazil however his consistancy over a full season is something of an unknown quantity. Hans-Bodo Kohl is an unknown quantity altogether. Graduating from some impressive WS ACE drives, including a win at Monza, Kohl will be eager to learn and impress early on if he's to stamp down his name at the team. Teamwork will be key to Roaldo's 2009 and if they can work together they'll be sure to throw in some surprises but this scrutineer feels this year may not be Roaldo's year.
Hot or Cold? Steam Room Hot
Torrent Motorsports - RedShiftNews.com
2009 dark horses TM-RSN enter the season with a large dose of optimism. I say this because the 2009 cars need a driver who is safe and consistant and if there's a man who's the above its John Eric Saxen. Always there or there abouts, he matured into a driver to be reckoned with last season and will be looking for his maiden win. Shaun Stroud joins him in the second car after scoring two points in WC last season. He'll be looking to gain regular points finishes but his aim will be podiums, not wins and certainly not titles.
Hot or Cold? Warm Shower
Ash Racing has gone for a mixture of experience and youth with Blair Disley leading the way for 2009 with WC newcomer Karim Wezenberg joining the high ranks. Disley will be the team leader and will be on a high following a win at China last season and several strong drives. His experience will be invaluable to Wezenberg who joins after some flashy fast drives in WS PRO. Possibly the most interesting newcomer to the WC this season, he'll be used as a flagship driver to see how others can jump from PRO to WC and cope with the change. If he fails, it could mean many other drivers dreams could be put on hold.
Hot or Cold? Warm Cosy Bath Time

A completely new outfit for '09 will be of great interest to all, but with brand new drivers entering FSR at the top flight too, you can't help but wonder if they've made a mistake. Paul Taylor will lead the team after a history of successes from GPL and LfS but has everything to prove again for FSR this year. Unknown teammate Andreas Eriksson will hope that he performs above expectations - mainly because there's not a lot of expectation of him. Expect the first few races to be tough for the new team but once they've adjusted to life in FSR, points may not be out of the question.
Hot or Cold? Chilled
Diamond Racing Team
Diamond Racing suffered in 2008 from a general lack of pace however they have continuity on their side in keep both Siarhei Pakhodnia and Joao Barbosa for a second year. Both drivers showed flashes of promise and had great fighting spirit to be battling eachother into their only points finishes of the year at Monza however all to often time was lost by poor qualifying positions and mid race incidents. This season both drivers have shown great improvement in the new spec cars and so 2009 could be a bit of a renaissance for Diamond after all.
Hot or Cold? Room Temperature
Tipped to be the biggest upset for 2009, Bracciano Racing have a very strong driver line up which now looks all the more potent following their excellent runs in the winter series. Jaakko Mikkonen came into his own over the winter with an almost unrivalled display of competence and speed whilst similarly inexperienced Elmer Holtkamp also shows knowledge beyond his years. Both drivers will be strongly matched which should see a great inter-team battle propell them forward however they must work together to make sure they do not turn against each other.
Hot or Cold? Lava overflow
Torrent Motorsports - IPForge.com
The all English Torrent B-team are low on experience but high on optimism with Sean Edwards bursting onto the scene in the winter series as another breath of fresh air. He'll be looking for podiums and race wins in his debut season of WC and has a history of racecraft to prove he can do it. Lee Morris will do well to show himself as a regular points scorer and his target will be his first WC podium after a imprssive start to his WC career at the end of 2008. However he may end up lost in Sean Edwards shadows and this could be a character building second term.
Hot or Cold? Kettles Brewed
FTS NetRex will be looking for improvements all round. The experienced Stallion Giuseppe Marconi endured a miserable 2008 where he failed to score all season and you have to go back to Nurburgring 2007 since Marconi's last point. However his experience should hold him in good stead for this years tricky cars and points will be on the cards again this year. Ernesto De Angelis however will be after points more regularly after two podiums last season. He may be the kick start the team needs to start moving forward but the drivers will need to be bringing the car home more often to make an impact.
Hot or Cold? Tap Water
Faster Than Speed
Returning from 2007, Patrick De Wit will lead this team into a hopeful revival in 2009. Patrick has speed but he has a hot headedness that can get the better of him. However no one makes up quite as many places at a start as him and therefore he'll be up for a title challenge again this year, but must sort out his stamina. Sergio Casalins stays on for a second season after a season that started so well spiralled into a desent of nothingness. Sergio must ensure that 2009 does not follow suit and show the turns of speed that gave him a podium at Melbourne last year at each race. Faster Than Speed could have an excellent season or a complete meltdown and it's anyones guess which way it'll go.
Hot or Cold? Woman's Menopause (Who Knows!)
The final team on the board and the second least experienced driving pair will see Precision Motorsports having a quiet year in 2009. Giuseppe Cantore jumped straight into WC after just one race in ACE and never finished higher than 13th in China but more worringly only completed 37% of his potential laps. David Martinez has just one WC start to his name along with a few ACE races. He has only scored twice in his career and will do well make any kind of impact in 2009.
Hot or Cold? Tepid
It will be an interesting year and I don't think there will be a standout winner. This year is up for grabs for everyone. Let the battle commence...
