The Scrutineer Eyes Up PRO
Today the PRO Drivers are Given the Once Over!
The Scrutineer has been down into the World
"The Scrutineer" Series Pro paddock and has been sampling the various teams energy drinks and grid girls for evaluation. However once all was said and done he decided to draw his attention towards the huge battle for the Pro series championship and he had this to say on each teams chances.
Formula Racing Organisation
Robert Fakes is the lead driver for this fighting team who look to be in very good shape for Melbourne. With just a single start under his belt, he could be a little green around the edges but there is no denying his ultimate pace and should be a big contender for the crown. Phil Roberts in a debutant but has been flying in testing and could be this years new hotshot.
Hot or Cold? Barbeque Grills!
Twister Racing Pro
Interestingly fielding a promising lineup for 2009, Twister should have a good inter team battle on their hands. Job Van de Geest has had only 9 races yet shone in many of them and looks to be in confident stead going into his first full season after a great 4th at Fuji. Philip Estrada struggled in 2008 and only scored 4 points in a trying season. He does have pace but needs to translate it into race finishes to progress.
Hot or Cold? Bubbling Under
Torrent Motorsports - IPForge
Torrent have a strong line up on their hands for 09. Dave Car Smith will be solely driving this season and after having some good races in WC, he is more prepared than ever to go for the
title. That's exactly what teammate Mindaugas Klumbis will be doing too. During 2008 he matured into a real front running challenger and he has gained himself a reputation for generally
making it home for the chequered flag. The best combo for the constructors championship? Possibly
Hot or Cold? Scorching Sun
Underdogs for points in some other leagues, Pro is where Ash Racing could surprise and take the lot. Dimitri De Matos notched up the pole positions and race wins in his debut season last
year, now he'll be eager to show he's a title challenger and he's in prime position to go for it this year. Markus Hoffman is a relative newcomer with just 4 races to his name. However after middling qualifying, his race pace has been strong and he looks to be a name we can all get to know in 2009.
Hot or Cold? Gas mark 7
Rothmans F1 Racing
The single team for Rothmans and they have a strong lineup of sorts. Danny Roberts impressed in AMA and jumped to PRO last season where the learning curve was steeper however there were signs he was getting to grips with it by the seasons end. Debutant Louis Wedding comes across from F1A and may struggle to adapt at first but should be hitting the points after a few races.
Hot or Cold? Warm
Faster Than Speed Pro
You can never write of FTS and this years no exception. Pablo Tassano is new however a 4th placed finish in his second race bodes well for a competitive 2009. Theo Gort should be up for the challenge of podiums too after a dissapointing 2008 in ACE. The drop down should see him in the top half of the field consistantly.
Hot or Cold? Sunglasses at the Ready!
Moving up from ADV, Sebastian Glunz joins Emre Uysal for Bracciano. Emre spent most of 2008 either at the very front or the very back and will need to gain consistancy this year to be a real threat for the podiums he can achieve. Glunz's return to PRO will see him briming with confidence after a three race stint in ADV and he'll be on for regular points finishes in the top 10.
Hot or Cold? Cheese Toasty
Torrent Motorsports - RedShiftNews.com
Torrent take 2 gives us experienced Wayne White at the helm who'll be looking at getting back to his 2006 winning ways and judging by his pace, he should be. Teammate Nick Rowland impressed in AMA last year and will be looking to make his mark in PRO this season after aquitting himself as a competitive runner in the Winter Series.
Hot or Cold? Boiling
Ash Racing ProDRIVE
11 race starts between them, Lukas Euler and Fabian Guckel should have troubles this season... if it weren't for their inherant speed. They'll be giving their sister team a headache and Ash could be looking at their best season to date.
Hot or Cold? Fireworks
Courtenay Smith is the sole driver for the team and scored 5 points in both AMA and PRO last season. This season will be a struggle against the big teams but his general speed should ensure this minnow gets onto the points board.
Hot or Cold? Room temperature
Miller Gomez and Alfredo Varon join forces for this patriotic team however they could be running into trouble. Alfredo Varon has yet to score in his 16 race starts and has only complete 29% of his laps while Gomez has little experience but has shown good pace. A one man team until Varon gets finishing.
Hot or cold? Chilly
GMT-DHR - Fanatec 2
Just 4 starts between them but showing promise, GMT enter 2009 full of optimism. Damian Dainhumain finished 5th in his only ADV start and makes the jump to PRO. He could spring the odd surprise. Jack Keithley scored 2 points in Fuji for AMA after a PRO race that ended in retirement for him. However he has shown flashes of speed. This team should bring home a fair few points.
Hot or Cold? A Warm Breeze
GhostSpeed Racing Team
Stephane Roualt will lead this team with vast experience and a decent WC campaign behind him. He'll be gunning for wins and the championship this year and he has the potential to do it. Joaquim Cabral joins him after just a single ACE race however despite showing potential, he'll have an uphill struggle with such a good teammate to have as a bench mark.
Hot or Cold? Hot for Stephane, Cold for Joaquim
Fielding FSR's only Estonian in the points builder Rasmus Tali, Precision could be onto a decent but with their other driver Pierre Maniette who finished last season 6th overall from only 12 race starts. Maniette will be going for the title this season and he is a hot tip to win it and with Rasmus bringing home regular points, a top 5 constructors position is really on the cards.
Hot or Cold? To hot to Handle!
Rice Racing TMO
Steven Robinson is a debutant for Rice's only entry. Not much is known but Rice Racing will surely give him the help he needs to qualify and race for points.
Hot or Cold? You Tell Me!
Bracciano's B-Team see's debutants Mikael Tuomaala and Sammy Sekowski take centre stage. Sammy has shown great promise in testing and could be an upset while Mikael will be going for points not podiums.
Hot or Cold? Totes Slippers
So PRO has a great line up. The smallest field in WS may have one of the closest battles and there's 5 or 6 drivers that could take the crown. Melbourne will be telling.. best of luck to all.
